The group formed in 1948, with members Bill Matthews (first tenor), Bob Hubbard (second tenor/lead), Bill’s brother Monty Matthews (baritone), Culley Holt (bass), and pianist Bob Money. After three years, Money was replaced by new pianist Gordon Stoker. This lineup lasted until 1952; at that time, Bob Hubbard was drafted and was replaced by Hoyt Hawkins. Later that year, Monty and Bill Matthews left. Hawkins switched to baritone, and new lead Neal Matthews, Jr. was recruited. Don Bruce came in as a new first tenor; however, he was drafted the next year. The group narrowed to a quartet, with Stoker taking over as first tenor.

The lineup changed again in 1954, with Cully Holt leaving and new bass Hugh Jarrett (later a disc jockey) coming in. Jarrett remained until 1958; at that time, he was replaced by Ray Walker. This lineup, consisting of Gordon Stoker, first tenor and manager, Neal Matthews, Jr., second tenor and lead, Hoyt Hawkins, baritone, and Ray Walker, bass, would be the group’s most stable lineup, lasting throughout the 1960s and 70s.

The group changed again in 1982, when Hoyt Hawkins died. His replacement was Duane West, formerly of Sonny James’ backup group, the Southern Gentlemen. The lineup remained constant for another two decades, with West leaving due to illness in 1999 (he died in 2002). His replacement was Louis Nunley.

Neal Matthews died the next year. He was replaced by new lead Curtis Young.

Eric Koston (born April 29, 1975 in Bangkok, Thailand) is an American professional skateboarder who currently resides in the Hollywood district of Los Angeles, California, but he grew up in San Bernardino, California.
He picked up skateboarding quickly and later went to a skate camp in MI, where he met Eddie Elguera, and realized his potential as a professional skateboarder. He eventually dropped out of school in 10th grade to pursue a full time skateboarding profession. He was sponsored and turned pro in 1993 when he joined the H-Street Team, he lived in the H-Street house in San Diego for six months.

In 1992, Koston moved to Los Angeles when Natas Kaupas got him into the 101 team. On 101, he established himself as a leading switchstance skateboarder - pioneering such technical tricks as the nollie flip noseslide and the switch kickflip backside tailslide. He also took a switch 360 flip down the Embarcadero 7 during his part in 101’s 1993 video “.”

Eric Koston plays basketball on an NBA Entertainment league in the winter, on a team called the Maverics. A few of his teammates are Ashton Kutcher, Justin Timberlake, and Mike Marlin. Eric also loves to play golf. Even though he didn’t invent it himself, Koston’s main signature trick is the “K Grind,” for Koston (aka the crooked grind), after mastering it and showing it on a video. He also has several other tricks that he has invented.

His stance is goofy, but he is known for his ability to skate switch he has the technical skill and the fearless commitment to create and practice new tricks, either on the streets, or in competition. He is known for inventing and playing the game of SKATE.

Greg Lutzka (born April 20, 1984 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin) is a professional skateboarder.

He started out riding for Beer City Skateboards. Then he went to Tampa and got discovered by Al Partanen, where he turned pro for Illenium Skateboards. In late 2003,was also on krooked he left Illenium to ride for Rodney Mullen’s new board company, Almost Skateboards.

Today, his sponsors include Almost Skateboards, Globe Shoes, Ricta Wheels, FKD Bearings, Independent Trucks,Mob Griptape, Drop Backpac, Oakley, Red Bull, Gnar Side Militia and Sun Diego Skateshop.

Lutzka is one of the newer riders for the Almost Team, he became one of the more noticed riders for Almost after the departure of Ryan Sheckler. Lutzka started skatboarding in 1997 and turned pro in 2001.

Lutzka is a technical skater, who likes to incorporate kickflip combos into his runs - runs that usually seem to hit most everything on the course. Greg Lutzka loves to try new things and challenge himself, and this style shows in his skateboarding.

Lutzka will be starring in Episode 4 of Globe’s “United By Fate” series of short films, which will be released in August 2008.

The first word I think of when I look at Nilton is “amazing.” Nilton Neves is one of the original Brazilian skateboarding super stars. Growing up in the streets of São Paolo, he’s one of the first generation skaters to come from Brazil and make it on the contest circuit and achieve international recognition. There was Bob Burnquist, Lincoln Ueda, Carlos De Andrade, and then came Nilton. He was part of the Brazilian takeover, and now there are tons of Brazilian riders claiming top spots internationally in vert and street. Nilton has been really competitive on the tours and has gained big notoriety in the skateboard world. For a guy from Brazil to come to the States and get an American sponsorship, and be able to travel the world riding a skateboard is a huge accomplishment. Nilton has done it well, and he’s done it with style. He truly loves life and he seems to touch everyone he meets in a very special way. He has a tattoo that says “Skate eterno”, which means, “Skate forever”. They also have another saying in Brazil, “na veia” which means it’s in your blood. It’s in your veins. These are classic Brazilian terms that describe Nilton. When Nilton won the Mystic Cup in Prague, for him to win a World Cup event was a big achievement, and the speech that he gave when he won was full of passion. He said, “It’s not about the money. It’s about the good times and friends and the good vibes of coming together for skateboarding.” Nilton is truly in love with skateboarding and it shows. Nilton is an all terrain machine, and everyone loves to watch him skate. The thing I love most about him is his style, smooth tricks and buttery manuals, and he can rock tranny. He rocks it all. He’s got a very impressive bag of tricks, and he’s been skating forever. He has the crazy Brazilian style, with flowing style, on and off the board. Let’s have a talk with Nilton and see what he’s all about because he’s a very unique individual with a unique personality. Somehow skateboarding attracts unique individuals, like Nilton. Here we go. Chris Senn (born December 11th, 1972 in Grass Valley, California) is a professional skateboarder. Chris has been skating since 1983 and has an aggressive, spontaneous style that is exciting to watch. With three X-Games gold medals in his collection, he finished off 2002 ranked 2nd in the World (behind Rodil de Araujo, Jr) and has been one of the top skateboarders in the United States for 12 years. Chris currently resides in Maui, Hawaii and enjoys skating on his private miniramp. Senn currently rides for Element Skateboards, Bones Wheels, Independent Trucks, and Oakley sunglasses and apparel. He is also sponsored by Emerica shoes and is on the Element video: Elementality Volume 1 video and is only shown skating in the section titled Argentina along with Mike Vallely.

He was voted Thrasher Skateboard Magazine Skater Of the Year in 1995.
