Conrad Burns was only the second Republican to represent the State of Montana in the Senate and is the longest-serving Republican senator in Montana history, having served three full terms before being defeated in 2006 by Democrat Jon Tester. Although a member of the powerful Senate Appropriations Committee, Burns is probably best remembered (outside of his home state of Montana, for being listed as one of the twenty most corrupt members of Congress in the September 2006 report from the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW).
